LoRa (from "Long Range") uses chirp pulses to encode information on radio waves, similar to how dolphins and bats communicate. When outdoor range is critical, our StaffAlert call system utilises LoRa wireless technology for exceptional performance over longer distances.

What is LoRa?
LoRa is a physical proprietary radio communication technique based on spread spectrum modulation techniques derived from chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technology.

How does LoRa use chirp pulses?

  • LoRa chirps can have a constant positive (up-chirp) or negative (down-chirp) frequency variation.
  • Each LoRa chirp sweeps over the complete range of frequencies representing the bandwidth of the system.
  • The duration of each LoRa chirp depends on the number of time chips of each symbol.
Why does LoRa use chirp pulses? 
  • The sound wave properties of chirps translate well into radio waves.
  • The advantage of a chirp modulation is that it is possible to decode the signal even when it's completely sunk in noise.
